Following up on the well-regarded GTR and GTR2, the crew at SimBin has crafted another racing simulation for hardcore racing simulation fans: Race 07. Whereas the GTR series focused on the FIA GT Series, Race 07 is primarily about touring cars. Anyone familiar with the Codemasters TOCA series from Codemasters is familiar with these cars. However, this is the FIA sanctioned WTCC (World Touring Car Championship) simulation, which brings together the very best touring car drivers from all over the world to race in an F1-style championship, many on real world circuits not as familiar to F1 drivers.

Race 07 doesn’t stop at being a touring car simulation, though. You are instead given the standard single season championship mode, single race, time attack and open practice. This brings an additional dimension to the game as cars handle quite differently in the wet. As many have found out, cars don’t turn as well in water! By the time you turn off enough graphical options to get a decent frame rate on such a machine, the game looks many years old. A new feature can monitor your frame rate during the course of a real race, and suggest graphics settings changes to get your frame rate into the target range.

The audio of the engines, cars, and voiceovers is excellent, as it was in GTR2. Too aggressive, and you risk falling off the track or smashing into another car. In hardcore racing games, tenths or hundredths of a second matter, and muscling other cars off the track usually harms you more than helps you. If you want to balance on the ragged edge of grip, lap after lap, consistently improving, this is your kind of game. If you jump into a race before you are prepared, you will quickly be overwhelmed by the AI, the track, and your own car’s physics.
A great physics engine doesn’t help me if the game doesn’t supply the cues I need to balance the car at the edge of grip. It is hard for me to imagine playing this game well without force feedback, because the game implements it better than almost every other racing simulation I’ve played. If the car under steers into a corner, you should get plenty of warning, both by sound and feel. Race 07 does it nicely.
It will affect your ability to drive the car, with graphical tire deformations and missing bits also implemented.

Race 07 tries hard to put you in the driver’s seat as literally as possible. The game can be installed in an offline or online mode. If you don’t want to license your software with Steam, you will need to install the game in offline mode or just pass up on the game entirely. The game also ships with a standalone server if you wish to host a league or just serve up races for friends.

So the good news is that Race 07 provides a rich racing experience, with 32 real-world racing circuits, 6 racing classes, and all the little details that hardcore simulation fans want. Aside from the aging graphics engine mentioned earlier, there are various nits I recorded while using the game. The User interface for the game is a little clunky.
Then there are annoyances like the fact that the first time you enter a race with a particular model car, the game will leave the car setup at Default. Default is a non-track specific setup. Race 07 thoughtfully provides both a wet weather and a dry weather racing setup, but you’ll have to immediately go into the setup screen, click Files, click the appropriate setup, and click load, before you even take the track. Why they could not have defaulted to track- and car-specific setups, I don’t know.
The AI of the computer-controlled cars is hit or miss. If you leave the door open just a little bit, the AI cars will force their way through.

It has been stated by 2K Czech that the game’s cutscenes are created by the game engine, in real-time, rather than pre-rendered cutscenes. For example if the player is riding in a car and a cut scene starts, the player will be driving the same car and if the car is damaged, that will appear in the cut scene.
The game has three different in game radio stations, Empire Central Radio, Empire Classic Radio and Delta Radio, with licensed music, news, and commercials. The base version of Street Fighter IV showed up on PC in July of 2009. Since then, a few different versions of Street Fighter IV have been pushed out to consoles like Super Street Fighter IV and downloadable updates, and with the PC Arcade Edition you’ll find them all combined into one package.

This fully updated version contains the full roster of 39, which includes the original 25 fighters, the 10 added in Super Street Fighter IV, and the four included in the Arcade Edition. Compared to the original Street Fighter IV, there aren’t any major changes to the fighting system in the Arcade Edition, though there are plenty of minor tweaks. Each fighter gets two Ultras (as opposed to one in the original Street Fighter IV), so if you never checked out the Super version on consoles, it’s certainly an interesting addition.

For the rest, the fighting system remains fast and flexible. I point this out because if you download the Arcade Edition on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 as an upgrade to Super Street Fighter IV, you’re given the ability to swap back and forth between Super and Arcade sets. Though the Arcade Edition offers a training mode and trial challenges for all fighters but the four introduced in Arcade, one of the best ways to learn is to watch talented competitors. The keyboard is very much an acquired taste for controlling a fighting game like this.

While playing this version of Street Fighter IV online I did experience lag from time to time. Considering Super Street Fighter IV was never released on PC, the additions offered in the Arcade Edition are substantial. If you’re not a hardcore fighting game fan but always wanted to check a game out, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition is an excellent choice.
Much like Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV features 3D backgrounds and characters played on a 2D plane. Exclusive additions like Focus Attacks and separate meters for both Super and Ultra Combos make a return. The Ultra Combo gauge and moves has been left unchanged since Street Fighter IV. The player wins a round if they deplete their opponent’s health meter, or have more health than their opponent when time runs out. If there isn’t a clear winner by the final match, it will result in a “draw game” (during online play, both players will lose battle points, and player points, in the result of a draw game).

Virtua Tennis 4 plays really well. The meat of the game doesn’t feel different than Virtua Tennis 3. Not that there’s a lot that can be improved in a tennis game (it’s essentially a glorified Pong), but it’s hard to get excited for a game I’ve played already. All three versions of Virtua Tennis 4 offer motion control. You swing the Wii Remote/Move Wand/Your Arm to swing the tennis racquet on screen. Motion control is not playable in any of the
game’s main modes, but rather through a special Exhibition mode. Virtua Tennis 4 has an interesting
first-person mode during these portions.
